HONOLULU (AP) — Police are investigating three recent reports of possible attempts to abduct children on Oahu.
The Honolulu Star-Advertiser reports (http://is.gd/ywOBxW) the state Department of Education reports the attempts involved elementary school-age children in Ewa Beach and Waiphau. All attempts have been made within the last week, and police are investigating whether they are related.
Two of the attempts involved men in vehicles. The third incident involved a suspect approaching a student, but not much information has been released about this incident. Children either ran or ignored the men.
Education department spokesman Alex Da Silva says principals at the three elementary schools involved have informed parents. They've also instructed teachers and counselors to talk to students about ways to stay safe.
