MINNEAPOLIS (AP) — Minnesota Twins first-baseman Joe Mauer was forced out of the game after being struck in the right elbow by a pitch from Arizona Diamondbacks starter Andrew Chafin in the first inning.

Mauer played defense in the top of the second on Tuesday night, but then came out because of a bruised elbow. The Twins say he is day to day.

The former All-Star catcher missed 34 games earlier this season because of a strained right oblique. He also sat out the final 40 games of the 2013 season due to a concussion.
