SALT LAKE CITY (AP) — State wildlife officials are releasing a young cougar back into Utah's mountains after the animal roamed a Salt Lake City neighborhood Sunday. Authorities say residents were told to stay in their homes as officers tracked the one-year-old cougar into backyards.
SALT LAKE CITY (AP) — Utah state officials say three horses have come down with the West Nile Virus. The state Department of Agriculture and Food says the most common sign that a horse has the virus is weakness in its hindquarters that can cause the horse to stumble, lean to one side or drag a toe. Officials say the virus is not transmissible from horses to people.
SALT LAKE CITY (AP) — Salt Lake City police say they arrested a man who approached uniformed officers to offer them drugs. Authorities say the officers were wearing their uniforms but riding in an unmarked police vehicle Sunday when the 31-year-old suspect flagged them down and asked what they wanted, referring to drugs. The officers asked for a specific drug, and the suspect approached the vehicle before he realized his potential buyers were actually police.
SALT LAKE CITY (AP) — When August monsoon storms forced the cancellation of the annual Speed Week event in Utah, speed enthusiasts hoped to make it up at another race starting Saturday. But The Salt Lake Tribune reports rain has once again left standing water on Utah's famous salt flats, forcing officials to cancel that event too.
