LA Kings beat Coyotes 4-3 in preseason shootout

LOS ANGELES (AP) — Nick Shore scored in the fourth round of the shootout, and the Los Angeles Kings opened the preseason with a 4-3 split-squad victory over the Arizona Coyotes on Monday night.

Marian Gaborik scored two goals on assists from Anze Kopitar for the defending Stanley Cup champions, who suited up at Staples Center for the first time since winning their second NHL title in three seasons.

Michael Stone tied it with 1:23 left in regulation during a 6-on-3 advantage for the Coyotes. Justin Hodgman and Philip Lane also scored in the third period.

Andy Andreoff also scored for Los Angeles.

Gaborik scored on a wrist shot in the second period and a tap-in early in the third.

The other half of both clubs' rosters also went to a shootout in Arizona, with the Coyotes winning 5-4.
