SALT LAKE CITY (AP) — State wildlife officials are releasing a young cougar back into the mountains after the animal roamed a Salt Lake City neighborhood yesterday. The cougar was found a residential area of the city's eastern flank, a few miles from the base of the Wasatch Mountains. Authorities say cougars generally avoid humans but sometimes enter neighborhoods close to their mountain habitats.

MANILA, Utah (AP) — Crews have recovered the body of a fisherman whose boat capsized three weeks ago on Flaming Gorge Reservoir. Daggett County sheriff's officials say the body of 69-year-old Charles Thomas of Riverton was pulled from the water on Sunday morning. He'd been missing since Sept. 1, when his small motor boat capsized.

SALT LAKE CITY (AP) — Utah state officials say three horses have come down with the West Nile Virus. The state Department of Agriculture and Food says horses have tested positive for the virus in Box Elder, Uintah and Iron counties. Officials are urging owners to give their horses the vaccination for the virus if they haven't already.

SALT LAKE CITY (AP) — The U.S. Hispanic Chamber of Commerce is holding its annual convention in Salt Lake City this week. U.S. Hispanic Chamber of Commerce President and CEO Javier Palomarez says while Utah is not a usual Latino stronghold like Florida or California, it has a growing Latino population and a compassionate approach to immigration.
