TOLEDO, Ohio (AP) — Logan Woodside threw for 152 yards with a touchdown and rushed for two more scores as Toledo defeated Ball State 34-23 in the Mid-American Conference opener for both teams on Saturday night.
Woodside helped the Rockets (2-2, 1-0 MAC) jump ahead in the first quarter, scoring on runs of 3 yards and 8. Kareem Hunt added a 13-yard touchdown to make it 20-3.
A 26-yard scoring pass from Woodside to Alonzo Russell made it 27-9 in the third. Damion Jones-Moore's 7-yard run capped a 14-play, 72-yard drive with 10:19 left.
Hunt finished with 142 yards on 12 carries in the first half before leaving with an undisclosed injury.
Ozzie Mann threw for 176 yards and a pair of second-half touchdowns, but couldn't pull Ball State (1-3, 0-1) within single digits.
Jahwan Edwards had 125 yards rushing on 21 carries for the Cardinals.
Toledo won its seventh-straight MAC opener.
