JACKSONVILLE, Fla. (AP) — Katie Ledecky was honored as the USA Swimming Athlete of the Year for the second straight season and took the Phillips 66 Performance Award for her record-breaking performance in the 1,500-meter freestyle at the Pan Pacific Championships.
Ledecky, the Olympic gold medalist and world record-holder from Bethesda, Maryland, received the awards Saturday night at the United States Aquatic Sports Convention.
Ledecky had five world-record swims over a two-month stretch this summer, capped with world records in the 400 and 1,500 freestyles on consecutive nights in Australia at the Pan Pacific meet.
