WELLINGTON, New Zealand (AP) — New Zealand cricket great Martin Crowe is facing a new health struggle after being told the cancer he had subdued with chemotherapy has returned.
Crowe, who turns 52 on Monday, learned in 2012 he was suffering from lymphoma. After a rigorous course of chemotherapy the disease was believed to be in remission.
Crowe said Wednesday he recently consulted a doctor over back pain and been told the lymphoma had returned.
Crowe said "you never beat lymphoma. But I was hopeful that after the first episode I might be clear for a few years. I felt very well. I will now have to have further treatment."
Crowe played 77 tests and 143 one-day internationals for New Zealand between 1982 and 1995.
