AUGUSTA, Ga. (AP) — The president of an east Georgia college that has been put on probation by an accreditation agency has announced his resignation.
Former Paine College President George C. Bradley stepped down from his post Tuesday and said his resignation is effective immediately.
The Southern Association of Colleges and Schools put the Augusta college on probation in June for failing to adequately address financial operations and governance issues. The accrediting agency had issued warnings to the school in 2012 and 2013.
In a statement, board of trustees chairman Silas Norman said Bradley is looking to spend more time with his family and Vice President for Academic Affairs Samuel Sullivan will serve as the school's acting president.
Paine is a private, historically black college that enrolls about 840 students.
