LOWELL, Mass. (AP) — The University of Massachusetts-Lowell is holding a special ceremony to officially open a new building that's expected to transform the campus.

More than 200 people including students, faculty and local and state political leaders are scheduled to attend the Tuesday ceremony to open the $95 million student engagement center, known as University Crossing.

The building links the school's North, South and East campuses and is within walking distance of downtown Lowell.

It will become home to all the university's student services as well as more than 150 student organizations. It also includes an events space, an expanded bookstore and cafe.

It is the 10th new building to open on campus since 2009. UMass-Lowell now has more than 10,000 undergraduates and 17,000 students in all.
