DETROIT (AP) — U.S. Rep. John Dingell of Michigan has been released from a hospital, three days after he checked in for abdominal pain.
The Detroit News reports that Dingell's office says the 88-year-old Dearborn Democrat left Detroit's Henry Ford Hospital on Thursday and is doing well.
Dingell, the longest-serving member of Congress in history, underwent a procedure to correct an abnormal heart rhythm in March.
He's retiring at year's end, and his wife Debbie is expected to win election in the Democratic-leaning southeastern Michigan district.
Dingell was a 29-year-old lawyer in 1955 when his father died and he won a special election to succeed him.
In 2013, Dingell broke the record for the longest-serving member of Congress held by the late Sen. Robert Byrd of West Virginia.
