The Baltimore players are glad to be getting back on the field after a week of answering questions about former teammate Ray Rice and the NFL's investigation of his act of domestic violence.
SAN FRANCISCO (AP) — Jake Peavy (PEE'-vee) struck out eight and didn't walk a batter to win his third start in a row as San Francisco topped Arizona 6-2. The Giants won their ninth straight home game to pull to within two games of the idle Dodgers a day before a key weekend series against the NL West leaders at AT&T Park.
CINCINNATI (AP) — Johnny Cueto (KWAY'-toh) has become the major league's first 18-game winner and tossed a gem to do it in a 1-0 win over St. Louis. Cueto allowed just three hits in eight innings to outpitch Lance Lynn and send the NL Central-leading Cardinals to their third straight loss.
CLEVELAND (AP) — Cleveland swept a doubleheader from Minnesota 8-2 and 2-0 to move to within 4 1/2 games of the American League wild card race. Corey Kluber got the win in the opener to become Cleveland's first 15-game winner since 2008. Rookie T.J. House worked seven innings in the second game, giving up four hits while striking out eight.
ATLANTA (AP) — Chris Kirk and Billy Horschel matched 4-under 66's to share the lead after the first round of the Tour Championship. Kirk is ranked No.1 and Horschel No. 2 in the FedEx Cup standings and if either wins the tournament, they'll take home the $10 million bonus.
