CRAIGSVILLE, Va. (AP) — A lip balm revolt is brewing in an Augusta County elementary school.
The school board bans the use of lip balms because they are considered an over-the-counter drug and school officials don't want students sharing medications.
But an 11-year-old Stuarts Draft Elementary School student has started a petition drive to bring relief to pupils' chapped lips.
The News Virginian (http://bit.ly/1rYoGJV ) reports that fifth-grader Grace Karaffa appeared before the school board this month after she was told she couldn't use lip balm for her chapped lips.
She launched a petition and she's gathered 236 signatures.
A school official says Grace's bid to end the schools' lip balm ban is reviewed by the school board.
