WASHINGTON (AP) — President Barack Obama has wrapped up a meeting with congressional leaders aimed at rallying support for a potentially lengthy military campaign against violent extremists in Iraq and Syria. But the chairman of the House Armed Services Committee says it's doubtful there will be a vote on authorizing action before the November midterm elections. Rep. Howard "Buck" McKeon he doesn't think there's enough to time to "have a full debate."

BEIRUT (AP) — The leader of an ultraconservative Islamic rebel group in Syria has been killed. Allies of the group say Hassan Aboud and other leading members of Ahrar al-Sham were killed by a suicide bomber. No group immediately claimed responsibility for the attack, but Ahrar al-Sham was part of the strongest front to challenge the Islamic State group. Forces loyal to President Bashar Assad's government have not typically used suicide bombers.

WASHINGTON (AP) — The Republican-led House has voted to condemn President Barack Obama for failing to give 30-day notice to Congress about the exchange of American prisoner Bowe Bergdahl for five Taliban leaders. The vote on Tuesday was 249-163 for the nonbinding resolution. Democrats call the vote a partisan, election-year attack and say it's ill-timed considering Obama's effort to rally support for combating Islamic State militants. Still, two dozen Democrats broke ranks and voted for the resolution.

OMAHA, Neb. (AP) — Doctors treating an American infected with Ebola at the Nebraska Medical Center say the man's condition is improving. Dr. Rick Sacra became infected with Ebola while working in Liberia. His doctors say he's becoming more alert and interactive and they're "encouraged" by his progress. A fourth America with Ebola arrived this morning at Emory University Hospital in Atlanta. Doctors there say he was able to walk from an ambulance into the hospital and that's a good sign.

NEW YORK (AP) — Stocks continue to slip. Apple shares were up as much as 4 percent today, after unveiling its iPhone 6 and a smartwatch. But by the end of the day, investors lost their enthusiasm particularly for the watch which doesn't come out until next year, costs $350, and would require an iPhone near it to work. Apple ended up losing 37 cents by the close. The Dow more than 97.55, while the S&P 500 lost 13. The Nasdaq composite also fell, dropping 40 points.
