PRICE — A $30,000 warrant has been issued for the arrest of a Carbon County woman accused of causing a man's death by illegally supplying him with prescription drugs.
Alejandra "Ally" Dunn, of Helper, was charged Friday in 7th District Court with distribution of a controlled substance, a first-degree felony, and manslaughter, a second-degree felony. Judge George Harmond authorized the issuance of an arrest warrant at the time the charges were filed.
Carbon County prosecutor Jeremy Humes said Tuesday that the manslaughter charge against Dunn is "based on the theory that it's reckless to distribute illicit drugs to people."
Dunn, 27, was arrested in December after nearly five months of investigation by Price police detectives into the Aug. 3 death of Anthony Joseph Compton. The 38-year-old South Jordan man was living in Price at the time of his death.
Detectives said they found forensic evidence in Compton's home that appeared to implicate Dunn in the man's death. Dunn was interviewed and admitted to providing Compton with oxymorphone, a semi-synthetic prescription painkiller, according to charging documents.
"She should have known he was overdosing, but claims she didn't," Price Police Chief Kevin Drolc said at the time of Dunn's arrest. "The evidence shows she was responsible for his death."
If she is convicted on the drug distribution charge, Dunn faces a sentence of five years to life in prison. A conviction on a manslaughter charge carries a maximum penalty of up to 15 years in prison.
