LAS VEGAS (AP) — A large section of Interstate 15 is closed in both directions north of Las Vegas after a fierce storm beat down on southern Nevada and washed out part of the road. Nevada highway officials say the closure runs from mile marker 64 to mile marker 112, between Glendale and Mesquite, west of St. George.
SALT LAKE CITY (AP) — The Air Force is reassuring people across a wide swath of northern Utah who heard loud booming sounds. Hill Air Force Base authorities say the explosive sounds were likely controlled detonations of unarmed ballistic missiles on its west desert testing range. The detonations are done two or three times a week, but sometimes weather like yesterday's overcast skies can make the sound carry further than expected.
SALT LAKE CITY (AP) — A judge is refusing to dismiss a lawsuit filed by supporters of the Salt Lake Tribune who say changes to a joint-operating agreement with the Deseret News threaten the Tribune's ability to continue publishing. As readers and subscribers of the Tribune, the critics claim they will suffer under the deal that gave the Deseret News 70 percent of the profits from the newspapers' joint businesses. Owners of the two papers argued the group has no legal standing to challenge the agreement.
SALT LAKE CITY (AP) — Utah state officials are delving out $2 million in grants to help 15 educational and economic development programs around the state. The grants are from a program run jointly through the state Department of Workforce Services, the Governor's Office of Economic Development and the Utah System of Higher Education.
