ATLANTA (AP) — Atlanta Falcons offensive tackle Jake Matthews was sidelined after injuring his left ankle on the next-to-last play of the first half.
The No. 6 overall pick came up limping after blocking for Matt Ryan on a deep pass to Roddy White that gave the Falcons a chance to kick a field goal on the final play of the half.
On the first possession of the second half, Matthews watched from the sideline, holding his helmet, as Gabe Carimi took over at left tackle. The Falcons drove for a touchdown that cut the Saints' lead to 20-17.
White was also shaken up on his 39-yard catch, but he was back on the field in the second half.
