RICHMOND, Va. (AP) — Brad Keselowski won the pole for Saturday night's NASCAR Sprint Cup race at Richmond International Raceway with a lap at 126.618 miles per hour for his fourth pole of the season. Jeff Gordon was second at 126.039 mph, followed by Hendrick Motorsports teammate Jimmie Johnson at 125.898.

NEW YORK (AP) — Top-seed and two-time defending champ Serena Williams rolled into the women's final at the US Open with a 6-3, 6-1 rout of Ekaterina Makarova (ma-kah-ROH'-vuh). Williams will meet Caroline Wozniacki (wohz-nee-AK'-ee) for the title. The 10th seed advanced when her Peng Shuai (SHWAY) retired in the second set with heat-related illness.

NEW YORK (AP) — The players' union says the NFL has asked for the right to immediately suspend players who are arrested for driving under the influence of drugs or alcohol. NFL Players Association executives have told The Associated Press that the league's proposal to increase penalties for DUI offenses includes a provision to suspend or discipline a player before the completion of his legal due process.

UNDATED (AP) — Baseball's tightest race is in the American League Central. That's where Kansas City resides in first place, a game in front of Detroit. Tonight, the Royals are in New York to play the Yankees while the Tigers entertain San Francisco.

QUEBEC CITY (AP) — Chip Beck eagled the par-5 18th hole for a 7-under 65 and a one-stroke lead after the first round of the Champions Tour's Quebec Championship. Two-time U.S. Open champion Lee Janzen had a 71 in his first Champions Tour round after he turned 50 last week.
