RICHMOND, Va. (AP) — He was once considered a potential White House running mate. Now former Virginia Gov. Bob McDonnell, and his wife, could face decades in prison. A federal jury in Richmond, Virginia, has convicted them of taking bribes from a wealthy executive to promote a dietary supplement. Bob McDonnell was convicted of 11 of the 13 corruption counts he faced. Maureen McDonnell was convicted of 9 of the 13 counts she faced. Sentencing has been set for Jan. 6.

WASHINGTON (AP) — The suburban St. Louis police department at the center of racial unrest over the shooting of an unarmed black 18-year-old faces a federal review. The Justice Department has launched a broad investigation of the Ferguson Police Department. Issues that will be examined include use of force. The FBI is already conducting a civil rights investigation into the shooting of Michael Brown.

CLEVELAND (AP) — A federal judge has temporarily blocked an Ohio law that scales back early voting. Judge Peter Economus ruled the restrictions unconstitutional and in violation of the Voting Rights Act of 1965. The restrictions were challenged by the ACLU, civil rights groups and black churches that provided bus rides for voters. Ohio's elections chief has been ordered to set additional voting times just ahead of the fall election.

NEW YORK (AP) — Police in New York have arrested 19 people for blocking traffic as part of a protest for higher wages for fast-food workers. A few of the protesters were wearing their McDonald's uniforms. Labor organizers say there have been protests in about 150 cities today. The campaign is called "Fight for $15." That's how much workers want to be paid by McDonald's Burger King and other fast-food companies.

NEW YORK (AP) — Her daughter says Joan Rivers would want her fans to "return to laughing soon." The acid-tongued comedian died today in New York. Rivers, who was 81, suffered cardiac arrest while in a doctor's office last week. Health officials are investigating. Rivers poked fun at celebrity fashion choices and at herself. In a 2013 interview, she said life is difficult, but laughing at problems makes them smaller.
