The meeting will occur on the sidelines of the NATO summit in Wales. White House officials say Obama and the leaders are also expected to discuss efforts to stamp out Islamic State militants.
PARIS (AP) — A Silicon Valley insider says tech companies were better prepared to scrub the Web after a second grisly video showing the beheading of an American journalist by Islamic State militants was released. Accounts on social media sites were closed within hours of its release. The tech official won't say whether the actions were taken at the request of governments or ordinary users.
DETROIT (AP) — A suburban Detroit man who killed an unarmed woman on his porch instead of calling police has been sentenced to at least 17 years in prison. A judge followed the recommendation of prosecutors in the case of Theodore Wafer, who was convicted of second-degree murder. Wafer told the family of the victim, Renisha McBride, that he'd carry "guilt and sorrow forever."
RICHMOND, Va. (AP) — There's no verdict yet in the public corruption trial of former Virginia Gov. Bob McDonnell and his wife, Maureen. Jurors put in a full day of deliberations today. They began reviewing five weeks of testimony and scores of exhibits Tuesday afternoon and have now deliberated about 13 hours. The panel will get back to work tomorrow morning.
THOUSAND OAKS, Calif. (AP) — Southern California animal control officers are hunting for a highly venomous cobra that bit a dog and then slithered off into a suburban Los Angeles neighborhood. A county spokeswoman says the snake attack Monday in Thousand Oaks sent the dog to an animal hospital in critical condition. But she says the pet now appears to be fine.
