MADISON, Wis. (AP) — The UW-Madison Police Department is warning students of the dangers of drinking too much alcohol after a student registered an extremely high blood-alcohol level.
Campus police made contact early Friday with a 25-year-old UW-Madison student who was stumbling as he walked up a stairwell in a parking ramp.
Officers say the man had watery, glassy eyes and was having a hard time standing. Police say his preliminary blood-alcohol content was 0.338 percent — more than four times Wisconsin's legal driving limit of 0.08.
The student was taken to detox for his own safety.
UWPD Chief Susan Riseling says binge drinking is a serious issue not only in Madison, but on campuses across the country.
