AKRON, Ohio (AP) — Kyle Pohl threw a career-best four touchdown passes to lead Akron to a 41-0 victory over Howard of the FCS on Thursday night in the opening game for both teams.

Three of Pohl's first five pass attempts were for touchdowns. In the first 5:26, Pohl connected with L.T. Smith with a 57-yard touchdown pass, then hit Imani Davis with a 9-yarder and Mykel Traylor-Bennett for a 43-yard score to give Akron a 21-0 lead. Pohl and Traylor-Bennett connected again for a 28-yard touchdown strike in the third quarter.

Pohl was 22 of 35 for 304 yards without an interception. Redshirt freshman Tommy Woodson threw a 40-yard touchdown pass to Austin Wolf in the fourth quarter to cap the scoring for Akron.

Howard moved into the red zone just once, but that drive stalled at the 11 to end the first half. Terrence Tusan had 18 carries for 60 yards to lead the Bison.
