NOVOAZOVSK, Ukraine (AP) — A Ukraine security spokesman says two columns of tanks from Russia have entered a strategic town. The spokesman also says Ukrainian forces were fired upon with missile systems from Russian territory. Ukrainian border guards retreated because they didn't have heavy equipment.

NEW YORK (AP) — Worsening tensions in Ukraine are sending markets lower -- a day after the S&P 500 finished with its third straight all-time closing high. The developments in Ukraine are overshadowing an encouraging report on U.S. economic growth. European markets are also lower today.

WASHINGTON (AP) — There's more evidence that the second half of 2014 will show stronger economic growth than in the first half. The government says the economy grew at a brisk annual rate of 4.2 percent in the second quarter of the year, after a bleak start. A measure of business investment was sharply higher than the government's initial estimate. And one economist says the spending has probably extended into the current quarter.

WASHINGTON (AP) — Federal researchers next week will start testing on humans an experimental vaccine to prevent the deadly Ebola virus. The National Institutes of Health says it is launching the safety trial on a vaccine developed by the agency's National Institute of Allergy and Infectious Diseases, along with GlaxoSmithKline. It will test 20 healthy adult volunteers to see if the virus is safe and triggers an adequate response in their immune systems. So far Ebola has killed more than 1,500 people in West Africa.

WHITING, Ind. (AP) — BP is saying only that it was "an operational incident" that caused an explosion at a BP refinery last night in Whiting, Indiana, just east of Chicago. The blast rattled homes nearby and the local fire department says it could be heard several blocks from the plant. BP says refinery operations were "minimally" affected and that one employee was taken to a hospital as a precaution, but was later released.
