BOSTON (AP) — School officials in Boston say they can't guarantee transportation for all students a day after school buses didn't complete more than a dozen routes for morning pick-up.
The city school district says 13 of about 120 routes were left uncovered Monday morning. The Boston Public Schools academic year doesn't start until next month, but the district is already providing transportation to a number of charter schools and special education programs.
The drivers have feuded with the district's transportation vendor and went on a one-day surprise strike last year. The union president told The Boston Globe not enough drivers showed up Monday despite its efforts.
The district says all its routes were covered in the afternoon, but more buses will be needed Tuesday and families should make backup arrangements.
