NEW YORK (AP) — The chokehold death of an unarmed black man by a white police officer in new York City is the subject of another protest. Organizers say they expect thousands of people to attend a march Saturday in Staten Island, led by the Rev. Al Sharpton's National Action Network. Sharpton is demanding that the NYPD officers involved face criminal charges.
TWISP, Wash. (AP) — Officials estimate 10 homes damaged or destroyed by mudslides in an area of north-central Washington where hillsides have been left barren by wildfires. Damage to homes included mud, rushing water and the powerful force of the two together. The slides also blocked highways. A flash flood watch was allowed to expire Friday evening.
WASHINGTON (AP) — There could be malicious software lurking in the cash register computers of many retailers. The Homeland Security Department says more than 1,000 U.S. retailers could be infected, allowing hackers to steal customer financial data. The government urged businesses of all sizes to scan their point-of-sale systems for software known as "Backoff," discovered last October.
