LOS ANGELES (AP) — One of the top pitchers in baseball over the last few years is going for his 15th win of the season tonight. Clayton Kershaw of the Dodgers takes a 14-3 mark into this evening's home game with St. Louis. Kershaw has a sterling 1.86 earned run average.

IRVING, Texas (AP) — Linebacker DeVonte Holloman of the Cowboys is done as a pro football player. Coach Jason Garrett says a neck issue is ending the second-year player's career. Holloman missed seven games in his rookie season because of a spinal contusion.

COLUMBIA S.C. (AP) — Running back Mike Davis of South Carolina may not be able to play in his team's season opener with 21st-ranked Texas A&M. The coach of the ninth-ranked Gamecocks, Steve Spurrier, says the 1,000-yard rusher hasn't been able to practice this week because of several nagging injuries, most notably a rib injury.

NEW YORK (AP) — When the U.S. Open starts next Monday two-time U.S. Open champion Serena Williams will face fellow American Taylor Townsend. The 18-year old Townsend is a former top-ranked junior player who reached the third round of the French Open this year.

PARAMUS, N.Y. (AP) — The first round of The Barclays PGA FedEx playoff wasn't very good for Rory McIlroy. The winner of the last three tournaments he's entered shot a 3-over 74. The early clubhouse lead is held by three players at minus-5.
