In a statement posted on a Facebook page, Diane Foley implores the militants to spare the lives of other hostages, calling them "innocents" with no control over U.S. policy.

Hamas officials say the strike killed his wife and infant son, but it's was not clear whether Deif was in the house that was hit.

MOSCOW (AP) — Russian police have detained four suspects after protesters scaled one of Moscow's famed Stalin-era skyscrapers today and painted the Soviet star on its spire in the national colors of Ukraine. In Ukraine, President Petro Poroshenko welcomed the act, calling it a "symbolic" gesture.
