LAS VEGAS (AP) — Las Vegas police say a 21-year-old woman accused of killing a person after they fought over a game of dice has been arrested in Ogden, Utah. Authorities say Anishya Douglas will remain in Utah pending extradition to Nevada. Police say a man was found dead in an apartment on August 6. Investigators say Douglas and the victim had been in a fight the day earlier over money and a game of dice.
LAS VEGAS (AP) — Nevada's unemployment rate held flat at 7.7 percent in July. State officials say that while the number didn't drop month-to-month, it was still down 2.2 percentage points compared with a year ago. Las Vegas' jobless rate went up to 8.2 percent, while Carson City's rate was flat at 7.9 percent and Reno's held steady at 7.3 percent.
RENO, Nev. (AP) — About 40 people peacefully protested outside the federal courthouse in Reno last night over the death of a black Missouri teenager who witnesses say was shot by a white police officer. Many of the Reno protesters carried signs in support of the NAACP. Sen. Harry Reid said in a statement the public deserves full disclosure of the facts surrounding the shooting and events that followed.
LAS VEGAS (AP) — A former corrections officer is among seven people accused of helping smuggle cellphones into prison for Las Vegas Strip shooting suspect Ammar Harris. Charges were filed yesterday against Derland Blake, after phones and other contraband were found in Harris' cell in High Desert State Prison in May.
