SALT LAKE CITY (AP) — Officials are moving forward with plans to evict families in 14 homes in Warren Jeffs' polygamous sect on the Utah-Arizona line as authorities attempt to crack down on families who have failed to pay occupancy fees for years. An attorney representing the accountant who has managed the polygamous trust since Utah seized it in 2005 says of 16 notices sent recently, only two families have agreed to pay.
SALT LAKE CITY (AP) — A man charged with plotting a shooting at Salt Lake City's City Creek Center mall has been placed in a mental health treatment program. Court documents show that Jack Stiles reached an agreement with prosecutors, which will put him on probation for three years. A civil lawsuit filed by the mall owners has also been dismissed.
SALT LAKE CITY (AP) — Authorities are considering charges against the owner of 10 horses found dead last month in a field near Magna. Unified Police say an investigation concluded that the horsed died of dehydration. The Salt Lake County District Attorney's Office will determine if charges are filed.
NEW YORK (AP) — DC United forward Eddie Johnson has been suspended two games and fined an undisclosed amount by Major League Soccer for violent conduct toward Real Salt Lake defender Carlos Salcedo. Johnson kicked the ball at Salcedo's back while the Salt Lake player was on the ground after a whistle. Johnson received a yellow card during the game.
