LUCK, Wis. (AP) — A Minneapolis girl who was attacked by an otter while swimming in a Wisconsin lake is getting rabies shots as a precaution.
A St. Paul Pioneer Press report (http://bit.ly/1psNN4x ) says 12-year-old Rory Kliewer was swimming with friends over the weekend in Bone Lake, near the city of Luck in northwestern Wisconsin. She was climbing onto a dock when the otter bit her buttocks and thigh.
It also scratched her face and bit her head. Then it chased her onto land, and when a friend's mother and a dog intervened it stood on its hind legs and hissed.
Family friend Pat Hinschberger rushed at it and yelled until it retreated. He says it seemed to be trying to injure Rory.
She says she's not sure if she'll ever swim in a lake again.
