CAIRO (AP) — Egypt's top cleric says the extremist Islamic State group paved the way for the destruction of Muslim nations. The group has been on a rampage in Iraq and Syria. Grand Mufti Shawki Allam, describes Islamic State as a "terrorist" organization which is "violating all the Islamic principles and the intentions of the Shariah (shah-REE'-yuh)," Islamic law. a0505
BALI, Indonesia (AP) — Police on the Indonesian resort island of Bali say they've arrested an American woman and her boyfriend in the death of the woman's mother. The body of 62-year-old Sheila von Wiese Macka was found stuffed inside a suitcase. Police say closed circuit TV footage shows the victim and her daughter had an argument at their hotel.
MANILA, Philippines (AP) — Philippine police say scores of passengers suffered injuries when the train they were riding rammed through a concrete barrier and rolled into a busy road intersection. There are no immediate reports of any deaths from the accident, which created a huge traffic jam. It's not immediately clear what caused the accident.
GRANTS PASS, Ore. (AP) — The governor of Oregon has authorized more resources to fight a 300-acre wildfire that is threatening more than 130 homes in the southern part of the state. The state fire marshal is being allowed to dispatch structural firefighters and equipment. Meanwhile, a massive, dramatic dust storm blew through Eastern Washington and north Idaho yesterday evening in advance of lightning and rain.
LOS ANGELES (AP) — The NBA's Los Angeles Clippers are officially under new management after racist comments by the former owner and his fight to prevent the sale of the team. The new owner is former Microsoft CEO Steve Ballmer. The sale ousted Donald Sterling as the NBA's longest-tenured owner. He bought the team in 1981.
