SALT LAKE CITY (AP) — Salt Lake City police shot and killed a man outside a convenience store last night. The Tribune reports that police were questioning three men leaving the store when one ran. Officers fired, killing him. Police did not immediately say if the man was armed. His name has not been released. Three officers have been placed on leave during the investigation.

SALT LAKE CITY (AP) — State health officials say mosquitoes carrying the West Nile virus have been found in Utah County. The Daily Herald of Provo reports that the mosquitoes were found in southern parts of the county and on the west side of Orem. So far, no human cases of West Nile have been reported.

SALT LAKE CITY (AP) — Late summer monsoon storms have turned western Utah's famous salt flats into a shallow lake, forcing the cancellation of the area's largest annual speed event. The annual Speed Week trials draw competitors from around the globe who tear across the white salt sheets in cars and motorcycles, hoping to break speed records.

SALT LAKE CITY (AP) — Riders of Utah's TRAX light rail system are pushing for more late night and weekend service, but the Utah Transit Authority says it needs more money. UTA President Michael Allegra says the agency is considering several ways it could raise enough money to expand their schedule, including a new fare structure or a sales tax increase.
