SALT LAKE CITY (AP) — State health officials say mosquitoes carrying the West Nile virus have been found in Utah County.
The Daily Herald of Provo reports (http://bit.ly/1oInyXT ) that state officials are urging caution. So far, there are no reports of anyone getting the disease.
Lance Madigan of the Utah County Health Department says the West Nile virus-carrying mosquitoes were found in southern parts of the county and on the west side of Orem. Madigan says residents should be on alert in all parts of the county.
The health department says residents can protect themselves by using insect repellent containing DEET, wearing long sleeves and pants and removing standing water around homes.
The virus has also been detected in mosquito pools in Box Elder and Uintah Counties earlier this year.
