BELLINGHAM, Wash. (AP) — Authorities say a Coast Guardsman identified as a suspect in the slaying of a Washington state woman has been found dead in an apparent suicide in a remote area of Arizona. U.S. Marshals say they found 33-year-old Michael Arnold of Boise on Saturday at a family-owned cabin. Police in Bellingham say they questioned Arnold last week in the Aug. 3 death of Abigail Gulotta. Police say detectives had insufficient evidence to arrest Arnold but his statements "made him a stronger suspect."

BOZEMAN, Mont. (AP) — Federal wildlife officials killed a male grizzly bear blamed for recent cattle deaths on an Idaho ranch. The Bozeman Daily Chronicle reports workers had reported cattle deaths on a ranch that is part of Idaho's Harriman State Park. Idaho wildlife officials contacted USDA trappers, who snared and killed the bear on Sunday. It was about 9 years old.

TWIN FALLS, Idaho (AP) — One of two motorcycle daredevils is calling off plans to try to attempt a jump over the Snake River Canyon in Idaho that Evel Knievel failed to complete 40 years ago. The Times-News reports "Big Ed" Beckley of Texas spent $1.6 million on the project. Recently, Fox decided not to broadcast the jump. Beckley says he won't attempt the jump unless a network pays him several millions of dollars so he can recoup his costs.

CALDWELL, Idaho (AP) — Attorneys and judges in southwestern Idaho are taking steps to make sure the number of inmates in the Canyon County jail doesn't go over a limit set by a federal judge. But the Idaho Press-Tribune newspaper reports that officers in neighboring Ada County can't arrest people with warrants from Canyon County, because Canyon County won't take them.
