Nevada team headed for Little League World Series

LAS VEGAS (AP) — For the first time, a Nevada team is heading to the Little League World Series in Williamsport, Pennsylvania.

Mountain Ridge scored nine first-inning runs en route to an 11-2 victory over Pacifica, California, on Saturday night in San Bernardino, California.

With the win, the Las Vegas team became the West champion and one of eight teams to advance to the World Series.

The team will open against the Midwest champion from Rapid City, South Dakota, at 4 p.m. Thursday. The game will be televised on ESPN2.

The Little League World Series began in 1947.
