WEST LAFAYETEE, Ind. (AP) — Darrell Hazell will wait at least one more week before choosing Purdue's starting quarterback.
The second-year coach said Sunday he wants to see how his top three quarterbacks, sophomores Danny Etling and Austin Appleby, and true freshman David Blough, do in Saturday's intrasquad scrimmage.
Etling started the final seven games last season and threw for 1,690 yards and 10 TDs after beating out Rob Henry. Blough was a highly touted recruit out of Texas.
But Hazell told reporters during the Boilermakers' annual media day festivities that Blough and Appleby have closed the gap on Etling, who says he believes the challenge will only make him better.
The Boilermakers open the season Aug. 30 at home against Western Michigan.
