SALT LAKE CITY- The Salt Lake Bees lost to the El Paso Chihuahuas, 11-7 Saturday night in an exciting game at Smith's Ballpark. The slugfest saw five home runs and 27 hits between the two teams. El Paso's Cody Decker hit two solo home runs in the second and fourth inning. Brennan Boesch hit his 21st home run of the season in the sixth inning off of Jason Lane with one runner on base. In the seventh inning Shawn O'Malley's made team history by hitting a sacrifice fly to right field that scored Vance Albitz from third and Tony Campana from second. It was the third time in franchise history Salt Lake has had a two-RBI sacrifice fly and closed the deficit to 7-6.
Salt Lake starter Randy Wolf (5-2) got the loss after putting in five innings of work striking out five while allowing seven hits and six runs.
"(Campana) did a great job of tagging up," Bees manager Keith Johnson said. "The outfielder caught the ball and stumbled a bit and hit the wall. Tony was rounding third as the throw was coming in. The throw went to second instead of home and we rolled the dice. Tony made a great turn around third and an even better slide."
El Paso would add four runs in the eighth inning to put the game out of reach. Salt Lake starter Randy Wolf (5-2) got the loss after putting in five innings of work striking out five while allowing seven hits and six runs. El Paso's Jason Lane (7-9) earned the victory after allowing nine hits and four runs.
The Bees homestand continues on Sunday with a 1:05 afternoon start and the final concert of the Bees Sunday Summer Concert Series featuring Jason Lugo. Tickets and additional information can be found at slbees.com or at Smith's Ballpark box office.
