A winner of his last two events, including the British Open, McIlroy has a one-shot lead over Australia's Jason Day and veteran Jim Furyk (FYOOR'-ihk). Rickie Fowler and Ryan Palmer are just two shots off the lead with Phil Mickelson three back.
BELMONT, Mich. (AP) — Third-round play is taking place today in the LPGA's Meijer (MAY'-ur) Classic. Inbee Park starts the day with a one-shot lead. She is looking for her second win of the season after winning six events last year.
MILWAUKEE (AP) — National League Central and West division leaders Milwaukee and Los Angeles are squaring off again tonight in Miller Park. The Brewers won the opening game of the weekend series last night 9-3. Tonight's pitching matchup features 12-game winner Zack Greinke (GREHN'-kee), who sports a 2.71 ERA, going for L.A. against Mike Fiers, who is making his first major league start of the season.
WATKINS GLEN, N.Y. (AP) — Qualifying is taking place today for tomorrow's Sprint Cup race at Watkins Glen. Jeff Gordon heads into the weekend with a 17-point lead over Dale Earnhardt Jr. in the standings.
MONTREAL (AP) — The Williams sisters renew their sibling rivalry in semifinal play at the Rogers Cup in Toronto. Today's meeting is the 26th between the two with Serena holding a 15-10 lead over Venus.
