LOUISVILLE, Ky. (AP) — A steady rain has forced the suspension of the second round of the PGA Championship after 20 minutes because of too much water on the putting surfaces. Play was halted 45 minutes before Rory McIlroy was to tee off, and as co-leader Ryan Palmer was playing the first hole. Palmer entered the day tied with Lee Westwood and Kevin Chappell, while McIlroy was in a group one shot back.
BLAINE, Mich. (AP) — Germany's Sandra Gal takes a one-shot lead over Inbee Park into the second round of the Meijer (MAY'-ur) LPGA Classic in Michigan. Top-ranked Stacy Lewis start the day five shots back. She has three wins and 13 top 10 finishes this year.
ATLANTA (AP) — The Braves are back home to host NL East leading Washington in a weekend series after dropping eight in a row on their recent road trip. Atlanta heads into tonight's game trailing the Nationals by a season high 4 1-2 games in the division.
KANSAS CITY, Mo. (AP) — San Francisco's Madison Bumgarner tries to join the group of 14-game winners when he gets the start tonight against the Royals in Kansas City. The 13-8 left-hander is coming off a two-hit, 10-strikeout shutout his last time out.
RIGA, N.Y. (AP) — Olympic pole vault champion Jenn Suhr has injured her hand, torso and neck after her pole snapped during a practice session at her western New York training facility. Rick Suhr, her husband and coach, tells the Democrat and Chronicle of Rochester that the injuries will keep her from competing later this month in London and Switzerland, and Morocco in early September.
