CLINTON, Utah (AP) — Officials in the northern Utah city of Clinton are warning residents to use bottled water and avoid tap water because of a possible E. coli contamination.
The city says in a statement that officials won't be certain if the water is safe until test results come in Thursday afternoon.
Clinton officials say water samples tested positive for the bacteria on Wednesday.
The city supply may have been contaminated when a resident connected irrigation water with the drinking water system.
That has been disconnected and city officials are working to disinfect the water supply.
E. coli can cause short-term health problems, including diarrhea, cramps, nausea and headaches.
Clinton has a population of about 21,000 people and is located about 30 miles north of Salt Lake City.
