LUXEMBOURG CITY, Luxembourg (AP) — The European Short-Course Swimming Championships in Israel will be delayed a year until 2015.

The European swimming federation, known by its French initials LEN, says its policy-making bureau voted to change the event date and city to avoid a "quite overloaded" sports calendar.

The annual event, originally scheduled for 2014, will be held Dec. 2-6, 2015, in Herzliya.

The European body made no mention in a news release of Israel's military conflict with Hamas in Gaza. It says Israel's swimming federation had already requested moving the event from Netanya.

On Monday, the men's ATP tennis tour canceled the inaugural Israel Open scheduled Sept. 15-21 in Tel Aviv because of security concerns.
