LOGAN — Utah State wide receiver and punt returner Bruce “JoJo” Natson has pleaded guilty in a Cache County courtroom to charges of theft, for which he will spend two nights in jail, pay a fine and serve a probation.
Natson, who averaged 11.3 punt return yards per game in 2013, was sentenced to two days in jail for the charges, a class B misdemeanor that can now be reduced to a class C misdemeanor with the guilty plea.
Natson told Judge Thomas Willmore that he logged into a teammate's school account and changed the bank account numbers, according to the Cache Valley Daily. He reportedly told the court, “if I hadn’t been cheating, none of this would’ve happened.”
Willmore ordered Natson to report to the Cache County Jail on Friday night, pay a $500 fine and be placed on probation.
“We’ve got some issues internally, which is part of the drill,” Utah State coach Matt Wells said at the Aggies’ media day on Monday. “I’m in a business that is mentoring young men. Sometimes they make really good decisions, and sometimes they make really poor decisions.
“We’ve already handled things internally.”
Wells said Natson and wide receiver Ronald Butler, who was arrested last month on a charge of driving under the influence and improper usage of lanes, were currently eligible to play for the Aggies.
Utah State opens the season Sunday, Aug. 31, at Tennessee.
