AUBURN, Ala. (AP) — Auburn University officials say the school will continue providing visual arts classes in correctional facilities thanks to a grant from the National Endowment for the Arts.
Officials said in a statement that the $55,000 grant will help Auburn continue the Alabama Prison Arts + Education project, which was launched in 2003.
The school's Department of Human Development and Family Studies runs the program in partnership with the Alabama Department of Corrections. The program offers semester-long art, science and English classes at 10 facilities in the state.
The program's director Kyes Stevens says the school plans to offer courses in more facilities in 2015.
