JOHANNESBURG (AP) — Police in South Africa say a fugitive drug trafficker from Britain has been arrested in South Africa.
The South African Press Association quotes police as saying Sunday that 52-year-old Martin Evans was arrested on the northern outskirts of Johannesburg. It quotes South Africa's national police commissioner, Gen. Riah Phiyega, as saying South African police intelligence worked with Interpol on the arrest at the request of British authorities.
An extradition hearing is scheduled Monday in Pretoria, the South African capital.
Evans was given a 21-year jail term in Britain for drug trafficking. He has been on the run since 2011.
