SARATOGA SPRINGS, N.Y. (AP) — Thoroughbred Lavender Road has been euthanized after breaking her neck when she fell from heat stroke while leaving the paddock at Saratoga Race Course.
Dr. Travis Tull of Rood & Riddle Equine Hospital in Saratoga Springs says the 3-year-old filly suffered a fracture of the seventh cervical vertebrae in her neck Wednesday. She was euthanized Thursday.
Lavender Road was scratched from the race after jockey Junior Alvarado noticed she wasn't acting right while warming up. She was taken to the paddock and unsaddled, but flipped and hit her head on a rail while being walked back to trainer Abigail Adsit's barn.
Bred in New York, Lavender Road had one win, one third and $30,610 in purse earnings from six lifetime starts for owner Kallenberg Farms.
