LAS VEGAS (AP) — Flash flooding in southern Nevada has closed part of State Highway 157 north of Las Vegas, caused damage to several homes on Mount Charleston and left about 100 residents without water due to a damaged pipeline.
The National Weather Service reports mud and debris flowed in up to 5-foot-deep flood waters in the mountain's Rainbow Canyon on Monday.
KLAS-TV reports (http://tinyurl.com/pxqmpkk ) heavy rain and pea-sized hail damaged utility lines and six homes. It also left part of Rainbow Canyon Boulevard impassable.
The area is especially prone to flooding after a wildfire burned there last summer.
Impacted areas include Mount Charleston, Floyd Lamb State Park and several area campgrounds.
A flood watch remains in effect until 9 p.m. Monday for an area including the Las Vegas Valley, Lake Mead, and parts of Clark, Lincoln, Esmeralda and Nye counties.
