ATLANTA (AP) — The two Republicans running for the U.S. Senate in Georgia both criticize the federal government's spending and debt.
But Rep. Jack Kingston and businessman David Perdue are still short on specific plans that would right the nation's balance sheet.
The two men meet in Tuesday's Republican primary runoff. The winner will face Democrat Michelle Nunn in one of the nation's most significant midterm elections.
Kingston and Perdue both say they would cut spending and refuse to raise taxes. But the kind of spending cuts they highlight aren't enough to solve a $17 trillion debt.
Kingston has voted for deficit budgets in the past. Perdue criticizes President Barack Obama's economic record, but he sits on the board of a company that accepted money from Obama's 2009 stimulus plan.
