LAS VEGAS (AP) — A 22-year-old pregnant mother was sentenced to three years on probation for conspiring to poison the husband of a woman convicted separately of orchestrating a shooting to kill the man for his life insurance.
Courtney Smith's lawyer, William Terry, said Monday that Smith wants to put the case involving Amy Denise Pearson Bessey behind her and take care of her own children.
Smith was the fourth person sentenced in the case arising from the wounding of Bessey's husband, Robert Bessey, while he drove to work on Interstate 15 in November 2012.
Smith pleaded guilty in May 2013 to conspiring with Amy Bessey to poison Robert Bessey earlier, on Father's Day 2012.
Amy Bessey was convicted of conspiracy and attempted murder and is serving up to 44 years in prison.
