DENVER (AP) — A Frontier Airlines official says one of its planes was diverted to Salt Lake City after it was hit by lightning. Spokeswoman Tyri Squyres says Friday night's lightning strike damaged the airplane's weather radar. None of the 168 passengers was injured. Because of bad weather, she said it was not safe to return to its Denver starting point without the radar system.
RENO, Nev. (AP) — A Utah congressman has introduced legislation to allow Western states and American Indian tribes to take over management of wild horses and burros. Rep. Chris Stewart says the U.S. Bureau of Land Management has failed to properly manage horses and burros, and states should have the ability to manage them because each state faces unique challenges.
SALT LAKE CITY (AP) — A group of Bureau of Land Management interns hiked three days across Utah desert last week to recreate part of the 1846 trek by the ill-fated Donner Party. KSL-TV reports three interns traveled about one-third of the waterless stretch of the Hastings Cutoff that the pioneers crossed. BLM spokesman Chad Douglas says the modern trip was part of a project to connect younger generations with the outdoors and history.
GRAND TETON NATIONAL PARK, Wyo. (AP) — Three people injured when a tourist bus flipped on its side in Grand Teton National Park remain in the hospital. The bus was carrying 26 Asian tourists and a driver when the accident occurred about 4:10 p.m. Thursday. The National Park Service says the bus belonged to Salt Lake City-based Roaming America Travel.
