Andrew Adams reportingThe Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints is taking issue with foreign reporting over the Fundamentalist Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints (FLDS) ordeal, saying several media outlets are getting it wrong.
In Russia, the LDS Church says media outlets continue to link the faith with the polygamous sect, despite requests for corrections. Similar problems have cropped up in France, Colombia, Bolivia, and the Caribbean.
Church spokesman Michael Otterson says U.S. news sources, like CNN and USA Today, have been far better.
"I wish it was that clear of a distinction to the ordinary members of the public. Because, frankly, we still do get confusion, even though it's well over a century since the Church discontinued polygamy," he said.
Church officials say coverage of the Olympics and Mitt Romney's White House run have likely helped visibility and understanding.
